Most gatherings often took place in the kitchen. The occasion and attendees are unknown. This very likly was a Eastern Orthodox Christmas celebration in early January. These events always had attendees coming ans going from morning till late at night. All kinds of food were available and various alcoholic beverages. One tradition was that every arrival was toasted by everyone present. This was a considerable amount of alcohol to be consumed by those who were present for extended periods. The children especially appreciated this day because they were permitted to be absent from school. |
