While many deer were "bagged" over the years, a bear kill was rather rare. It was shot in Clinton county in December, 1942. Here it is being skinned and butchered. It was later cured in a brine mixture. Venizen was distributed to the members of the "Steampipers" hunting club and also consumed at their annual dinner. This bear's hide was converted into a rug, head and all, which was a source of delight for the children for many years. |
